Our EVPs/Audio Evidence...
This is a collection all of the audio that we have found worthy of presenting. When this list gets really long, we'll make a separate page for our favorite evidence... but we still encourage you to listen to all of them!
For us to qualify this as "worthy evidence", it has to pass our rigorous standards. On investigations, we use multiple recording devices. When we are reviewing the raw audio... we put ALL of the raw audio side-by-side in a multitrack program that allows us to easily reference the other sources. This helps us ensure that we can rule out the source as either ourselves or other natural causes!
As always, headphones need to be used to hear them. With EVPs... it's often best to focus on the background "hiss" sounds rather than our voices in the foreground. If you are new to listening to these, then it is imperitive to listen to them over and over to get the "feel" of this.
-Tombstone Knocking-
Investigation Link:  1/12/08 - Allen AME Church, Edisto Island, SC
Location Link:  Allen AME Church - Edisto Island, SC
These are the several knocking sounds we heard on the tombstone of Ezekial White in response to our questioning! I turned up the audio on the section with the knocks. As usual, headphones are required…
John: "Mr. Moldy. Whoa... did you hear that? No?"
Katie: [responds negatively and says something about breaking a twig a second ago] "Ezekiel White?"
John: "South Carolina..."
[SEVERAL KNOCKING SOUNDS EMINATE FROM THE TOMBSTONE]
John: "Did you hear that."
Katie: "Uh huh!"
John: "What was that?"
Katie: "No Idea."
John: "It sounded like it came from the tombstone. I mean, that's what... it sounded like a bump bump bump. Did you hear that?"
-“I Love You”-
Investigation Link:  3/29/08 - Padgett-Mosley Cemetery and Nolan Ridge
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
GHOSTS LOVE ME! Both Katie and I absolutely believe that this IS NOT Katie! Admittedly -as some of you probably know- Katie and I say “I love you” to each other probably ad nauseam to the average bystander. There is definitely without a doubt an “I love you” said here, but it is NOT Katie. You have to trust me on this… even though it’s female, it’s not “consistent sounding” to the rest of her audio sounds on the two 10-minute recordings. It’s too close, too bright, and too clear compared to her speaking immediately before and after it. Also, it’s way too soft… it’s almost like someone tried to whisper it in my ear (or rather… right into the recorder). At the time of this recording, she wasn’t standing close enough to me for a whisper like that to be as loud as it was, in fact… I don’t think it would have picked up anything if she did whisper anything that softly.
Also, very much unlike me… I don’t acknowledge that she said anything at all, and I’m sorry… but if I didn’t respond to Katie’s “I love you”, I don’t think she wouldn’t have left it hanging!
John: "Gah..."
[camera turns on]
John: [humming a lovely melody] "hmmm hmm hm hmm hmmmm."
[camera "ready" beep, and I take a picture]
EVP: I love you
John: "I wonder if it annoys some of these people to have to hear a church service every Sunday."
Katie: [giggles]
-“They Know Who We Are”-
Investigation Link:  3/29/08 - Padgett-Mosley Cemetery and Nolan Ridge
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This is a fantastic EVP that gets better every time I hear it. Not only is it fairly clear and multi-syllabic, it’s in context to what we are saying.
Katie: "Are there any Padgetts here who would like to speak with us??"
EVP: [very faint] They know who we are.
John: "That's funny that this... [camera beep and picture snap] I mean, I assume these people..."
-John Mosley-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Bell Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This one is pretty good. This is from the grave of John Mosley, and right after I say “John Mosley”, you hear a whispered “John”. I couldn’t boost up the signal much in this one because it has a lot of noise, so really turn up the volume!
-“Thank You, Son”-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Bell Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This one is pretty arguable, but I think it’s interesting… especially (like all of these) when you factor in the context, and we got an spike on the EMF reader of 1.2 which was by far the highest we got there (and there is no power for miles where we were). I was looking at the flowers on Connie L. Bell’s grave, and I noticed that some had fallen. I reached over to pick them up and knocked over some plastic tulips in a plastic vase, spilling water on her grave (that’s what the picture on the left is attempting to show). Oops! But that’s when we got the 1.2 spike! I pick up the flowers, and I say that everything looks good now. This is where the audio picks up:
John: ..."And the little cherubs look nice, too. Those are cherubs, right?
EVP: Thank you, son.
-“Truck Driver”-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Bell Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
We were in front of a tombstone that had an 18 wheeler etched on it. I said “He was a truck driver”, and you can here a very faint, almost child like sounding voice that says something that’s eerily close to truck driver.
-Here are Some Kids-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Bell Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This one isn’t great, but I say “Here’s some kids” (and ignore my bad grammar please), there is a peculiar “YUP” kind of noise as a response. It wasn’t picked up on the other recorder, and I didn’t hear any other sounds like this all the way through the recordings (so it wasn’t a frog or a recording noise or anything).
-Weird Breathing Noise-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Bell Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
Straight out of a horror flick! lol… no clue what this is -and I’m cetainly not claiming that it’s paranormal - but it’s not on the other recorder, and there aren’t any other sounds that sound even close to this! ...And yet, it has a sort of “human quality” to it.
-“Turn Around”-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This is a great one, and is extremely creepy when taken into context! This was one of the more audible whispers, and as you can hear it sounds very much like a strong “TURN AROUND”. What’s funny is that right as this EVP occurred, at that EXACT SECOND I thought I saw something moving over my shoulder and I thought I saw eyes reflecting some light. What’s not on this clip is that immediately a few seconds before, I state out loud that I thought I saw something. Immediately following that is the EVP, and I ask to hold Katie’s flashlight so I can shine the light on the area. Perhaps I’ll edit that clip to include that soon…
I won’t lie… I was a little scared when I thought I saw something. The flashlight didn’t show anything but some sparkles of the grave’s “bling"… but now that I hear this sound right at the same time all of that was going on, it’s quite unnerving! What’s funny, too, is that I *did* turn around! lol…
-Bark and Wailing-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This one gets better and better every time I hear it. And we believed this occurred at the same grave in which we got the great EVP from the first visit that says “They know who we are” (the grave of Katie G. Barrett)! What’s peculiar is you hear something that sounds like a dog bark right when the clip starts, but there were no dogs anywhere close to where we were. We could occasionally hear dogs far, far away in the distance, but there weren’t any up close (and too far for the devices to pick up), and that sound *isn’t* on the other recording device!
As we are slowly realizing that this is the same spot we were in before, I say “Are there any Padgetts here? ...Are there any Barretts here?”, and in the background you can hear a wailing sound. That wailing sound was NOT audible to us! It was not on the other recording that we made at the same time, and I didn’t hear anything else that sounded like it on this recording.
If only I had shut my big face up, because if I had gotten that sound without me talking over it, it would scare the bejeezus out of even the most stoic person, and qualify as one of the best EVPs we’ve gotten!
Worthy of mention… this particular gravesite has a husband and wife that died very young on the same day, pretty much ensuring the death was quite tragic.
-Redman-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This one isn’t spectacular by any means, but it is a very strange noise that I haven’t heard on any other parts of all my recordings. As I said in the last investigation of this location, there was a grave with a Redman Chewing Tobacco logo, a wild turkey, and a bulldozer. I’ve really tried to get this guy to say something, and there is a peculiar, very high-pitched response (almost like a “uh huh"). Once again, it’s not on the other recording and I haven’t heard a sound like this before (so I don’t think it was the recording device somehow). I’m not claiming it’s paranormal, but it’s certainly not really explained, either, so it’s worthy of mention.
-“Whoop”-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This isn’t one to write home about either, but once again… this isn’t an animal, it wasn’t picked up on the other recorder, and it doesn’t sound like anything my recorder has done before. It’s just a strange “whoop” noise in the background. We South Carolinians are fiercely loyal to our state, and this was a South Carolinian’s grave. I start talking about South Carolina, and I get a quick “whoop” that isn’t repeated anywhere else on the recordings (or on the other recorder). Once again, it’s not the best evidence, but definitely odd.
Funny… the “tombstone knocking” sounds I got in Edisto were right after I said “South Carolina”. lol… I think I’m on to something!
-Typical Whispering-
Investigation Link:  4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
Like I said earlier, there was a lot of barely audible “whispering” sort of sounds in the first few minutes after we walked into the graveyard. This is nothing really special (unless it’s, umm… scary shadowy things whispering about Katie and me), but it’s a quick sample of what I’m talking about! It was basically just a barely audible ambient aura of whispery background sounds. Sure, sure… this could be something that can be explained, but we didn’t get sounds like this the other times we were here so I thought I’d point them out.
-I do-
Investigation Link:  4/06/08 - Ruth Church and “1800s” Cemetery
Location Link:  Little Ruth Church Cemetery - Green Cove Springs, FL
I know what you are thinking… on first listen it sounds like a bullfrog or something. I’m telling you, though… there wasn’t any other sound like this on the recording, and I would have heard it if it was a frog, a bug, or an animal. Also, the other recorder picked up a lot of static at this time. This is one of those that the more I listen, the better it gets. After listening to it over and over and reflecting on it, I really am inclined to believe that this is an EVP and a direct response to what I was saying… and it’s definitely a sound not heard anywhere else on the recordings.
John: "Anybody here that wants to speak with us"
EVP: I do.
John: "...Besides the Chicken?"
-Ruth Church Garble-
Investigation Link:  4/06/08 - Ruth Church and “1800s” Cemetery
Location Link:  Little Ruth Church Cemetery - Green Cove Springs, FL
Ok, this one is VERY STRANGE, and pretty long for an EVP, and both recorders caught it! Unfortunately, you can’t make out what it’s saying, but it’s definitely human sounding… and it clearly wasn’t us.
First, let me explain what I did in this clip… I spliced together one section from another recorder. You can hear the sound quality change radically. I did this because the second recorder caught a bit at the end that sounds like a whisper that the first one didn’t pick up (but the first one’s quality was much better during the first part).
If anyone can decipher what this is, I’d be happy to hear from you! lol… Maybe this is what the alleged resident succubus sounds like! After listening to it over and over, it does sound somewhat menacing…
John: "Leon... David Leon Stiltner..."
[LONG STRING OF GARBLED EVPS]
[QUICK INSERT OF WHISPERY EVP FROM SECOND RECORDER]
John: "They were only 50, right?"
-“I already picked up the thing” (?)-
Investigation Link:  4/08/08 - Manning Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (III)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This was from the graves of Katie G. and Charlie G. Barrett at Nolan Ridge… the same place where we’ve gotten other EVPs such as “They know who we are” and various wailing noises! This couple unfortunately passed away on the same day when they were 28 and 34, so there has to be great tragedy associated with them.
I can’t make out exactly what is said, but it sounds a little like -and has as many syllables as- “I already picked up the thing”. If anyone else has any other ideas what is said, then please let me know! This once again sounds sort of like a response to us… not directly, but ABOUT US -just like the “They know who we are” EVP.
John: "Katie G. Barrett. We've gotten a lot of things from you..."
EVP: (sounds something like...) I ALREADY PICKED UP THE THING(?)
John: "...Charlie G., Katie G. Barrett... are y'all both here?"
-Screaming!-
Investigation Link:  4/08/08 - Manning Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (III)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This was definitely not heard at the time of recording! lol… It’s blood curdling screams, and what’s funny is for those of you that know the Smurf Video that we made, it sounds very similar to the two stock, free domain screaming sounds I spliced together for Smurfette when Gargamel picks her up at the very end!
This is another bit of evidence that makes me inclined to think that maybe this location is inhabited by things that aren’t quite, umm… benevolent.
John: "This is Johnney Nolan. An "E Y"... is that a female name??"
EVP: [BLOOD CURDLING SCREAMING]
Katie: "I don't know."
John: "Don't know."
EVP: [MORE BLOOD CURDLING SCREAMING]
-“They Watch Us”-
Investigation Link:  4/08/08 - Manning Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (III)
Location Link:  Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This is one of those that both of the recorders picked up, but one part was better on one and one part was better on the other. Therefore, I spliced the two tracks together so you will hear the static and hiss change slightly when one ends and the other starts.
The end sounds like “They watch us”, but the sounds in the middle are interesting, too. It almost sounds like a loud, distant gunshot sound or slapping noise that is “echoey”, and you can hear a few other noises mixed in there.
[Recorder 1] John: "Loving son and brother. He made it to 40... on the nose."
[Recorder 2] EVP: [Slapping, echoey noises, and a few sounds from second recorder spliced in]
[Recorder 1] EVP: [from first recorder] THEY WATCH US
-“I like this tree”-
Investigation Link:  4/26/2008 - Padgett-Mosley 2, St. Margaret’s, Little Ruth Church 2
Location Link:  St. Margaret’s Church - Green Cove Springs, FL
This one is ok… it’s a little hard to hear, but what we hear, “I like this tree”, is completely in context to what we are talking about.
[camera turns on]
Katie: "I like that they left this tree and just put the benches around it."
John: "Yeah... now that's a big tree. Holy cow.."
Kaite: "Yeah... that's awesome"
[camera snaps a picture]
EVP: I LIKE THIS TREE
John: "Thank you, I wouldn't even have n-noticed that."
Katie: [laughs]
-“Wind Chimes?”-
Investigation Link:  4/26/2008 - Padgett-Mosley 2, St. Margaret’s, Little Ruth Church 2
Location Link:  Little Ruth Church Cemetery - Green Cove Springs, FL
[EVP COMING SOON!]
-Weird Female Noises-
Investigation Link:  4/26/2008 - Padgett-Mosley 2, St. Margaret’s, Little Ruth Church 2
Location Link:  St. Margaret’s Church - Green Cove Springs, FL
This one isn’t anything to write home about, but it’s definitely some strange, female noises in the background that we can’t account for....
-“Turn the Camera Off”-
Investigation Link:  4/27/2008 - Bell Cemetery II and Nolan Ridge IV
Location Link:  Bell Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This one is really, really low and is lost in the low rumble (I didn’t set the new digital recorder quite right) so you need to listen very closely, but it’s in context and it sounds to us very much like “Turn the camera off” after we take a picture. This is from the same grave in which I got the “Thank you, son” EVP after I straightened the flowers and commented on the cherub.
I’m sorry that it’s so low and hard to hear… I tried to boost the signal and reduce the noise a little, but that took away some of the EVP, too. So you might have to use your imagination with the end result of this one a little bit! lol…
[Camera beep-beeps and snaps]
John: Connie... is that you? Can you hear me, Connie?
EVP: TURN THE CAMERA OFF
John: Connie are you able to hear me?
-“Junior”-
Investigation Link:  4/27/2008 - Bell Cemetery II and Nolan Ridge IV
Location Link:  Bell Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL
This one is interesting because the EVP comes first. We walk up to the grave of “Daniel Bell, Jr.” -born December 24th 1860, died January 25th, 1925. The EVP then says “JUNIOR” right before I say “Daniel Bell Junior” outloud!
What’s also interesting is that there is a “clicking/crackling” sound before this one that has occurred before some other EVPs I’ve gotten. I’m going to start keeping track of that.
Katie: [Clears throat]
EVP: JUNIOR
John: "Daniel Bell Junior..."
-“Yeah, I’d hate to do it”-
Investigation Link:  5/10/2008 - Old City Cemetery and “School Four”
Location Link:  “School Four” (Annie Lytle Elementary School) - Jacksonville, FL
While I don’t think “School Four” is a very haunted place… this one is weird, what can I say. You can hear the sound of the highway in the background -our sensitive recorders LOVE to pick up passing cars… it seems to be right in their preferable frequency range- but the other sounds we picked up are pretty unusual. It does sound like a kid or kids. It starts out with barely audible sounds, and then ends with something that sounds like “Yeah, I’d hate to do it” after I ask “Anybody that can speak with us?“‘
There is no doubt that we are stepping on a board or something during the clearest part, and the sound somewhat matches the pattern of this, but not exactly (for instance… it starts a little BEFORE the snapping sound). I can’t rule out that these sounds aren’t some strange artifact produced by that, but there is still the first part that has the same sounding “voice” without the snapping noise, and I didn’t hear these anywhere else in the entire audio. Also, those sounds were only on this recorder… not both.
You’ll have to decide for yourself on this one!
Camera beep and snap
EVP: [Sounds like younger voices saying something in the background]
John: "Is there anybody in here?Anybody that can speak to us?"
EVP: "[Yeah,] I'd hate to do it."
John: "I wouldn't mind a picture out front, where it say's 'School Four'".
Katie: "Yeah."
-“It’s Creepy”-
Investigation Link:  5/10/2008 - Old City Cemetery and “School Four”
Location Link:  “School Four” (Annie Lytle Elementary School) - Jacksonville, FL
This one is only border-line passable, but it does resemble “It’s creepy”, and it certainly is loud, and I had just finished saying that the light on the floor was “creepy”. There weren’t any other sounds like this, and the other recorder didn’t pick it up. Sure, there could be a logical explanation for it, but those are the reasons I chose to share this.
That light on the floor, by the way, has been mentioned in some stories and has some sort of silly urban legend attached to it I’m sure. Basically, it’s just a small spot of sunlight on the floor in a very dark, second floor room. It looks kind of like an Indiana Jones booby-trap or something! That room is EXTREMELY DARK… my flash is so bright that most rooms lit up like it was complete daylight in there, but this one was still really dark. That’s why this light stands out like it does… it really is strikingly bright!
John: "See that little light on the floor that's creepy?"
Katie: "Yeah!"
John: "It'd be creepier if it went out!"
[camera beep and snap]
EVP: "It's creepy"
