4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)

This was a pretty “active” day, and we caught a lot of EVP evidence from both places.  Bell Cemetery -although it’s nearly inaccessible- pleasantly surprised me.  ...And at Nolan Ridge, once again we got both a “whispering voice” in the front part of the cemetery and another sound near “Katie G’s” grave!  Although, this time the latter wasn’t a direct response, it was more like… wailing!

Please see the location links at the bottom to learn more about both of these locations.  As always, you need headphones to listen to these!

Bell Cemetery...

Here are the entries from Bell’s Cemetery, and although these are hard to hear, they are definitely interesting.  Even though the place is very hard to get to (but for some reason the car’s GPS system still had the trails on it, but the trails were slightly off… strange), it’s extremely quiet… and this means that we will definitely be back.

This one is pretty good.  This is from the grave of John Mosley, and right after I say “John Mosley”, you hear a whispered “John”.  I couldn’t boost up the signal much in this one because it has a lot of noise, so really turn up the volume!

-“Thank You, Son”-

This one is pretty arguable, but I think it’s interesting… especially (like all of these) when you factor in the context, and we got an spike on the EMF reader of 1.2 which was by far the highest we got there (and there is no power for miles where we were).  I was looking at the flowers on Connie L. Bell’s grave, and I noticed that some had fallen.  I reached over to pick them up and knocked over some plastic tulips in a plastic vase, spilling water on her grave (that’s what the picture on the left is attempting to show).  Oops!  But that’s when we got the 1.2 spike!  I pick up the flowers, and I say that everything looks good now.  This is where the audio picks up:

John: ..."And the little cherubs look nice, too. Those are cherubs, right?
EVP: Thank you, son.

-“Truck Driver”-

We were in front of a tombstone that had an 18 wheeler etched on it.  I said “He was a truck driver”, and you can here a very faint, almost child like sounding voice that says something that’s eerily close to truck driver.

-Here are Some Kids-

Investigation Link: 4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)

This one isn’t great, but I say “Here’s some kids” (and ignore my bad grammar please), there is a peculiar “YUP” kind of noise as a response.  It wasn’t picked up on the other recorder, and I didn’t hear any other sounds like this all the way through the recordings (so it wasn’t a frog or a recording noise or anything).

Straight out of a horror flick! lol… no clue what this is -and I’m cetainly not claiming that it’s paranormal - but it’s not on the other recorder, and there aren’t any other sounds that sound even close to this!  ...And yet, it has a sort of “human quality” to it.

Nolan Ridge...

As you may already know, I consider Nolan Ridge to be a “hot spot”.  Well, this investigation didn’t let us down either!  Here is the evidence from this second visit to Nolan Ridge:

-“Turn Around”-

Investigation Link: 4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link: Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL

This is a great one, and is extremely creepy when taken into context!  This was one of the more audible whispers, and as you can hear it sounds very much like a strong “TURN AROUND”.  What’s funny is that right as this EVP occurred, at that EXACT SECOND I thought I saw something moving over my shoulder and I thought I saw eyes reflecting some light.  What’s not on this clip is that immediately a few seconds before, I state out loud that I thought I saw something.  Immediately following that is the EVP, and I ask to hold Katie’s flashlight so I can shine the light on the area.  Perhaps I’ll edit that clip to include that soon…

I won’t lie… I was a little scared when I thought I saw something. The flashlight didn’t show anything but some sparkles of the grave’s “bling"… but now that I hear this sound right at the same time all of that was going on, it’s quite unnerving!  What’s funny, too, is that I *did* turn around! lol…

-Bark and Wailing-

Investigation Link: 4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link: Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL

This one gets better and better every time I hear it.  And we believed this occurred at the same grave in which we got the great EVP from the first visit that says “They know who we are” (the grave of Katie G. Barrett)!  What’s peculiar is you hear something that sounds like a dog bark right when the clip starts, but there were no dogs anywhere close to where we were.  We could occasionally hear dogs far, far away in the distance, but there weren’t any up close (and too far for the devices to pick up), and that sound *isn’t* on the other recording device!

As we are slowly realizing that this is the same spot we were in before, I say “Are there any Padgetts here? ...Are there any Barretts here?”, and in the background you can hear a wailing sound.  That wailing sound was NOT audible to us!  It was not on the other recording that we made at the same time, and I didn’t hear anything else that sounded like it on this recording.

If only I had shut my big face up, because if I had gotten that sound without me talking over it, it would scare the bejeezus out of even the most stoic person, and qualify as one of the best EVPs we’ve gotten!

Worthy of mention… this particular gravesite has a husband and wife that died very young on the same day, pretty much ensuring the death was quite tragic.

-Redman-

Investigation Link: 4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link: Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL

This one isn’t spectacular by any means, but it is a very strange noise that I haven’t heard on any other parts of all my recordings.  As I said in the last investigation of this location, there was a grave with a Redman Chewing Tobacco logo, a wild turkey, and a bulldozer.  I’ve really tried to get this guy to say something, and there is a peculiar, very high-pitched response (almost like a “uh huh").  Once again, it’s not on the other recording and I haven’t heard a sound like this before (so I don’t think it was the recording device somehow). I’m not claiming it’s paranormal, but it’s certainly not really explained, either, so it’s worthy of mention.

-“Whoop”-

Investigation Link: 4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link: Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL

This isn’t one to write home about either, but once again… this isn’t an animal, it wasn’t picked up on the other recorder, and it doesn’t sound like anything my recorder has done before.  It’s just a strange “whoop” noise in the background.  We South Carolinians are fiercely loyal to our state, and this was a South Carolinian’s grave.  I start talking about South Carolina, and I get a quick “whoop” that isn’t repeated anywhere else on the recordings (or on the other recorder).  Once again, it’s not the best evidence, but definitely odd.

Funny… the “tombstone knocking” sounds I got in Edisto were right after I said “South Carolina”.  lol… I think I’m on to something!

-Typical Whispering-

Investigation Link: 4/04/08 - Bell Cemetery and Nolan Ridge (II)
Location Link: Nolan Ridge Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL

Like I said earlier, there was a lot of barely audible “whispering” sort of sounds in the first few minutes after we walked into the graveyard.  This is nothing really special (unless it’s, umm… scary shadowy things whispering about Katie and me), but it’s a quick sample of what I’m talking about! It was basically just a barely audible ambient aura of whispery background sounds.  Sure, sure… this could be something that can be explained, but we didn’t get sounds like this the other times we were here so I thought I’d point them out.
