Hickory Grove Cemetery ( a.k.a. “1800’s Cemetery"), Green Cove Springs, FL

As far as *THE DEFINITION* of old, historic cemeteries goes… this is it!  It’s surrounded by tall, shadowy trees, and the tombstones date all the way back to pre-Civil War times, and the styles obviously are of a construct of a bygone era.  There are even a couple (I think two) of graves of Revolutionary War veterans! 

I didn’t know what the name of this cemetery was for a long time… there is no sign -save for a “No Trespassing, No Vandalizing” one, there is no address, and there is not much of an “online presence” of it.  However, I found mention of it at Civil War Florida, and it gives some information.  It apparently was written up in a booked entitled “They Are Here” (although I’m sure that the name refers to Civil War genealogy, and not the paranormal! lol...).  From this website, I got better directions than what I originally had to go on: From Green Cove Springs, FL. turn West on S.R. 16 and travel 1.1 miles to the cemetery on the right.

This cemetery is alleged to have a “toucher” ghost.  Here is the entry from StrangeUSA.com:

This particular cemetery is found on the way out of Green Cove heading west on SR 16, towards Starke. as you leave the downtown area, and begin to descend down the hill, look upon the hill to your right. I have personally experienced moving shadows, rustling noises, visible orbs, cold spots, and the like. If you go in the day time, it is easier to read the older gravestones and markers, the oldest i can find are in the back, and often partially covered by brush and/or roots. A girl whom visited with me experienced a physical touch, like a tap on the shoulder while approaching the far corner from the entrance. this is by far the creepiest spot there. please feel free to post the name and precise location should you know where i am talking about.

I’m guessing that the “far corner from the entrance” is actually the furthest point back (and it’s actually in the center)… there is an extremely old, creepy, and very unusual tombstone there.  It’s not closely surrounded by other graves, and it’s right on the edge of some very thick woods.  Whether there is actually any paranormal activity associated with this spot or not, I’m quite sure I could spin a tale about this tombstone that would strike fear into the hearts of most!

The PROBLEM with this cemetery is that it’s located right off of a pretty busy road.  When you go back over the audio evidence, you will practically go deaf from the roar of the cars.  As far as going late at night, the place where you would park is park fairly visible for oncoming traffic… which of course can pose a problem because of the rampant traffic law enforcement in that city!  So basically, EVP evidence is extremely hard to get here.

A side note… there is a HUGE cemetery across the street.  I would assume that we would have the same sort of noise problems though, although maybe the very back would be far enough away to avoid noise pollution.
