Padgett-Mosley Cemetery - Jennings State Forest, FL

Padgett-Mosley Cemetery was a first for us… we have never been to a location with this sort of “style”.

As soon as you get a clear view of the premises, you are greeted by a sea of plastic flowers, stuffed animals, toys, and other trinkets and graveyard “bling” that adorn each plot.

The tombstones are nearly unanimous with colors, racecars, animals, shards of multi-colored glass mixed into the concrete, and actual pictures of the deceased embedded right in the surface.  I hope I don’t offend anyone reading this, but I think mainstream America would easily define this as “tacky”!  Somewhat touching though is that there are a few “handmade” tombstones that were etched very crudely.

However -even with the “handmade” tombstones and the ones with all of the bling- these were not the most striking features.  By far, the vast majority of the graves were for:

    1) infants
    2) people that died around the age of 30
    3) people that died around age 50

Most of these were RECENT ERA deaths, too… these weren’t deaths from the 19th or 20th century, these were deaths in modern times. Literally, the amount of infant deaths was staggering.

This is one of four locations in Jennings State Forest, and all of them are prime ghost hunting locations because of their pristine location.  You couldn’t ask for a more quiet place to get EVPs!  Here is a map of Jennings State Forest with all of the locations…

This location probably has a little more potential for traffic because there is a Black Creek recreational area at the end of the dirt road, but it still should be fairly quiet.
